The Knights of the Order of St John created a powerful system of bastions, walls, and fortifications in Valletta, which in the 16th century was considered one of the most advanced defensive structures in Europe.
But times change. Massive walls are no longer needed to protect the city from its enemies. Today, Valletta’s former military structures are home to museums, theatres, exhibition spaces, and art venues.
🎨 On Tuesday, the students visited one of these places — Spazju Kreattiv, Malta’s National Centre for Creativity, located in the historic St James Cavalier, in the very heart of Valletta.
Here, the students explored contemporary art and media creativity at the MCAST ICA Festival 2026 — a festival where film, digital technologies, design, and visual art come together in one space.
Today, art is not necessarily a painting hanging on a wall. It can be video, sound, a digital installation, an interactive space, or a story told through a screen.
