Yesterday, the summer camp participants went on a walking tour of Mdina — Malta’s ancient capital, whose history spans more than two thousand years. Before Valletta was established, this was the political and administrative centre of the island.
Today, Mdina is known as “The Silent City” — a place where narrow medieval streets, historic palaces, and mighty fortified walls create an extraordinary atmosphere of stepping back in time.
The students entered through Mdina’s Main Gate and set off to explore the city.
The narrow streets of the ancient capital provide welcome shade even in the hottest weather, and the children enjoyed strolling through the city.
Around every corner, they discovered ornate balconies, ancient doorways, charming courtyards, and unexpected views. It feels as though the city has been frozen in time, preserving memories of the different eras of Malta’s history.
The fortifications and bastions of Mdina made a particularly strong impression. From their heights, visitors can enjoy a spectacular panorama of central Malta — and on a clear day, it is possible to see almost the entire island.

🎓But the main purpose of the trip to Mdina was a visit to the National Natural History Museum, where one can learn not about the history of the knights, but about the geology, animals, plants, and unique natural ecosystems of the Maltese archipelago.
🌱🐦⬛️🌿The children saw various collections of birds, fossilized remains of ancient animals, seashells, insects, and many other exhibits.
⛲️ Even the museum courtyard with a beautiful artificial pond became part of the tour and aroused the children's most lively interest.
🌟As a final touch, the children each threw a coin into the well, making a wish to return to Mdina once again!
