The “Induction Programme” at International School Malta Crown is expertly crafted to prepare students from around the world for English-medium education and the prestigious Cambridge International GCSE qualification.
INDUCTION PROGRAMME
Duration: Up to 1 year (depending on the student's progress).
Primary Objectives:
1. Enhance the student's academic English proficiency to a level that ensures effective learning.
2. Facilitate a smooth transition to English-medium education in the appropriate grade level within the Cambridge curriculum.
STEP 1 - Determine the appropriate grade level within the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme based on the student's age.
STEP 2 - Grade Level Adjustment Based on Academic Proficiency
To ensure proper placement, all students undergo the following assessments: 1. Interview or Initial Placement Test: This evaluates the student's current level of English proficiency. 2. Mathematics Placement Test: This assesses the student's math skills.
Based on the test results and teachers' recommendations, a decision is made regarding the student's eligibility for the appropriate secondary education programme.
STEP 3 - Development of a Personalized Learning Plan.
A personalized learning plan is created to prepare the student as quickly as possible for English-medium education, considering their individual abilities.
The plan includes: 1. Morning Sessions: Focused on learning basic academic English through core subjects. 2. Afternoon Sessions: English language study in multi-level groups based on the "General English" course.
STEP 4 - Regular Progress Testing
Ongoing assessments track the student's progress in learning English, including interim tests for Cambridge certifications (FCE, PET, KET). Based on these tests, students are placed into groups that match their current level.
STEP 5 - Transition to Regular Academic Programme
Once the student achieves the required level of English proficiency, they are transitioned to the appropriate grade level (year) to continue their education in the English-medium curriculum.
